RGB vs RGBW vs RGBWA+UV PAR Lights: Which Colour Mix Do You Need?

RGB vs RGBW vs RGBWA+UV PAR Lights

Choose RGB PARs for parties and saturated colour on a tight budget. Choose RGBW for weddings, stages and anything filmed, because the white LED gives clean whites and pastels. Choose RGBWA+UV for warm amber tones and UV glow in one fixture. On stagify.ae, RGB PARs start at AED 80, RGBW at AED 382 and RGBWA+UV at AED 580.

This comparison is for UAE DJs, wedding planners, event companies and venues choosing LED PARs. If PAR lights are new to you, start with What Is a PAR Light? LED PAR Cans Explained.

Key takeaways

  • RGB mixes every colour from red, green and blue. White and pastels often look tinted.

  • RGBW adds a white LED for clean whites, softer pastels and better results on camera. It is the safe default for weddings and stages.

  • RGBWA+UV adds amber for warm golds and peach tones, plus ultraviolet for glow effects on fluorescent décor.

  • More colours mean more DMX channels: for example 7 on an RGB PAR and 6 or 10 on an RGBWA+UV PAR.

  • For faces and speeches, a warm/cool white PAR beats all three.

Quick verdict: RGB, RGBW or RGBWA+UV?

RGBW is the best all-round choice for UAE weddings, conferences and stages, because clean whites and pastels matter more than anything else on camera. RGB is fine for parties and DJ booths where saturated colour is the goal. RGBWA+UV suits neon parties, warm-toned weddings and rental stock that must cover every look.

What do the letters mean?

Each letter is an LED colour inside the fixture: R red, G green, B blue, W white, A amber and UV ultraviolet. A "4-in-1" LED packs RGBW into one chip, and a "6-in-1" packs all six. More colours in one chip blend more smoothly across the lens than separate single-colour LEDs.

Which gives the best white and skin tones?

RGBW and RGBWA+UV give far better white than RGB, because they have a dedicated white LED instead of mixing white from three colours. Amber in RGBWA+UV also warms skin tones. For lighting faces at speeches and first dances, a dedicated warm/cool white PAR still beats all three colour types.

On an RGB PAR, "white" is red, green and blue at full, which often looks slightly pink or blue and can turn odd on camera. The 36 LED RGB Stage Par Light (AED 80), for example, has no white chip, so any white it shows is a mix.

The 18 LED Stage Par Light (AED 480) uses 18 × 10W RGBW 4-in-1 LEDs, so its white comes from a dedicated chip. Its listing also mentions optional RGBWA and RGBWA+UV versions, so ask Stagify which configurations are in stock before ordering.

For faces, the Warm Cool White Led Par Light for Stage Dj Club 100W (AED 350) switches between 3,200K and 5,600K white and has a CRI of 90 or above, which colour PARs do not publish.

Which gives the best colours and pastels?

RGB gives strong saturated colours (deep red, blue, green) at the lowest price. RGBW adds clean pastels such as blush, lavender and mint, because white can be blended in. RGBWA+UV is best for warm tones such as gold, peach and candlelight, and adds UV for neon looks.

Popular wedding palettes include blush, gold and ivory. RGBW handles blush and ivory well. Gold and champagne tones look richer with amber, which is where RGBWA+UV earns its higher price. For layouts using these colours, see Wedding Stage Lighting Ideas: Kosha, Entrance Walk & First Dance.

When do you need UV in a PAR light?

You need UV when the décor, costumes or guests' accessories are fluorescent: neon parties, glow-in-the-dark themes, UV face paint and some stage sets. UV makes those materials glow while the rest of the room stays dark. Without fluorescent materials, UV adds little, so do not pay extra for it.

An RGBWA+UV PAR combines UV with normal colour, so one fixture covers both looks. For a dedicated UV wash, the UV PAR STAGE LIGHT 54 LED BAR DISCO LIGHTING (AED 350) uses 54 × 3W UV LEDs in a 3 kg aluminium body.

UV blacklight is for effect, not for staring into. Aim it at décor and dance floors rather than at faces, and do not look directly into the fixture.

How do colour channels affect DMX control?

Each extra colour adds at least one DMX channel. An RGB PAR typically uses about 7 channels, an RGBW PAR 3 to 8, and an RGBWA+UV PAR 6 to 10. More channels give finer colour control but use more of your desk's capacity, which matters on compact desks limited to 12 fixtures.

The 54P LED RGBW Aluminum DJ Par Light (AED 382) has 54 × 3W RGBW LEDs and a 45° beam, and its 3-channel mode keeps big rigs simple. The RGB 54 LEDs DISCO STAGE PAR LIGHT (AED 273) is a stronger RGB option for parties, with 54 RGB LEDs in a 2.8 kg body.

Is RGBWA+UV worth the extra cost?

RGBWA+UV is worth it if you need warm amber tones or UV effects regularly, or you run rental stock that must cover every event type. For most weddings and stages, RGBW gives the clean whites and pastels you need at a lower price. For parties on a budget, RGB is enough.

The RGBWA UV LED Battery Par Light 6x10 watts (AED 580) has 6 × 10W six-colour LEDs and runs on its own battery, for about 4 hours in mixed colours or about 9 hours on a single colour. It takes 6 or 10 DMX channels, weighs 2.8 kg and is rated IP20 for indoor use. That makes it a cable-free uplight for ballroom pillars and décor.

  • You light home parties, DJ booths and clubs

  • You mostly want strong saturated colours

  • You are on the tightest budget (from AED 80)

Choose RGBW if:

  • You light weddings, conferences or filmed events

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between RGB and RGBW PAR lights?

An RGB PAR mixes white from red, green and blue LEDs, which often looks tinted. An RGBW PAR adds a dedicated white LED, giving cleaner white, softer pastels and better results on camera. On stagify.ae, RGB PARs start at AED 80 and RGBW PARs at AED 382.

What does RGBWA+UV mean?

It stands for red, green, blue, white, amber and ultraviolet: six LED colours in one fixture. Amber adds warm gold and peach tones, and UV makes fluorescent décor glow. The RGBWA UV LED Battery Par Light on stagify.ae uses 6 × 10W six-colour LEDs and costs AED 580.

Are RGBW PAR lights good for weddings?

Yes. RGBW is the safest choice for UAE weddings, because it gives clean ivory and white for backdrops plus soft pastels such as blush and lavender. For gold and champagne tones, RGBWA+UV adds amber. Light faces with warm white rather than colour.

Do I need UV in my PAR lights?

Only if your events use fluorescent décor, costumes or face paint, such as neon parties and glow themes. UV makes those materials glow. Without fluorescent materials, UV adds very little, so a cheaper RGBW PAR is the better buy. A dedicated UV PAR costs AED 350 if you need UV only occasionally.

Do RGBWA+UV lights use more DMX channels?

Usually, yes. Each extra colour needs its own channel. The RGBWA+UV battery PAR on stagify.ae runs in 6- or 10-channel modes, compared with 3 or 7 for an RGBW DJ PAR and 7 for an RGB PAR. Check your desk's channel and fixture limits.

Can RGB lights make white?

They can make a white-looking mix by running red, green and blue together, but it often looks pink, blue or slightly green, especially on camera. For a true, clean white, choose RGBW or RGBWA+UV, or a dedicated white PAR for faces.

Verdict: which colour mix do you need?

Buy RGBW for most UAE weddings, stages and filmed events, because clean white and pastels matter most. Buy RGB only for budget parties and DJ booths. Buy RGBWA+UV when warm gold tones, UV glow or rental flexibility justify the extra cost. Keep a warm white PAR for faces, whichever you choose.

Most stage and wedding rigs start with RGBW PARs. Event companies and venues can request a project quote or WhatsApp a Stagify specialist for bulk pricing and help choosing colour systems.
